Wine Tasting, Kayaking, Dining, Hiking & Events. Guerneville offers small-town charm that’s big on exploration. Things to do run the gamut from Sonoma and Napa Valley wine tasting to outdoorsy Northern California expeditions to cultural excitement through our art galleries and local events downtown.
Downtown Guerneville is a walk-able half mile to town, and just minutes by bike.
So central, so much to do, you’ll want to make us your home-base and book an extended stay.
Guerneville (link) is surrounded by hundreds of local wineries. Explore the distinct differences in each viticultural appellation; Russian River Valley, Dry Creek Valley, Alexander Valley, Sonoma Valley, and Sonoma Coast, not to mention the Napa Valley appellations.
For a little bit of bubbly just minutes from Applewood, head over to Korbel Cellars for a sparkling wine tasting and tour(link). Beyond Korbel, our hosts will recommend their personal favorites, sharing the “inside scoop” on each unique place to visit.
Whether you’re craving the allure of the forest or the allure of the coast, Applewood Inn is positioned to give you access to the best paths to explore. Just five minutes away is Armstrong Redwoods Park [link]offering a variety of trails and even horseback riding. A quick 10-mile drive and you’ll be on the beautiful Sonoma Coast where a perch in the dunes is perfect for an unforgettable sunset view.
Enjoying the famed Russian River is a favorite Guerneville CA thing to do. Paddleboats, canoes and inner tubes are available for the day or you can just swim and relax in the river. Access the river from many different points, with the most popular being Johnson’s Beach just off of the main street downtown. It’s a perfect way to stay cool on our warm summer days (besides our beautiful private pool, of course). River activities are seasonal from May through October.
Main street offers shopping, art galleries, coffee shops and a variety of restaurants to keep you exploring. This quaint river community boasts numerous festivities during the summer season, including Rockin' the River concert series, weekly Farmer's Market every Thursday and the year-round First Friday Art Walk.

Wine lovers come to the Russian River Valley for our Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, but stay for so much more. The Russian River Valley has 16,000 acres of grapes managed by countless small and boutique wineries. Beyond Pinot, delicious Zinfandel, Syrah, and Sauvingon Blanc is produced here, set between redwood forests and the beautiful river.
If you’re making a short visit to Northern California, the Russian River Valley can serve double duty, allowing you to taste famed California wines while taking in the natural beauty of our Redwood forests and unspoiled coastal beaches. In our not-so-humble opinion, Armstrong National Park is equally impressive to Muir Woods, but without the inconvenience of so many daily tour buses.
If you have more time with us, our host team can recommend the best experiences, from wine tasting to river sports and scenic hiking or horseback riding. Contact Us for more information or to arrange your stay.
Rolling country roads that take you through forests and pastures and give way to charming estates and breath-taking views at each hilltop. Small towns with shops and cafes in between countless wineries. Each intersection tells you where to turn to find more vineyards and experiences. We love the effortless cool of Sonoma, with a more casual, local vibe than more commercial destinations.
Sonoma County is where California natives find their favorite wineries and special lunch & picnic spots. Its also where you can engage in more than wine tasting, with annual events from river floats to balloon festivals and daily activities like hiking, biking, shopping and antiquing.
Take a drive (or let someone drive you) through the winding roads of Sonoma Country, for a retreat that gets you out of the hustle and bustle of the modern world without sacrificing any quality or convenience. Our host team can easily make all the arrangements and recommendations for your explorations.
What you may not know about Sonoma County is that most of the area is still unincorporated and independent, with only the more populated downtown areas incorporated into towns like Guerneville. Most of our inviting area wineries are independent of a specific town, giving them some of their casual charm. Set on rolling estates with views of Redwood forests and the Sonoma Coast, Russian River Valley wineries offer a special charm that brings folks back over and over again.
While popular destination Korbel Champagne Cellars is the only winery located in Guerneville CA proper, other famed area wineries offer a broader range of varietals, with unparalleled Pinot Noir and Chardonnay leading the charge. Experience a variety of them in one place at a local tasting bar such as Sophie's Cellars in Duncans Mills, or get out and try some of our personal favorites.
